Deborrah Markette has explored various media, including painting, drawing, sculpture and furniture-making. Her recent works consist of wooden abstract shapes constructed in multiple layers. The shapes seem to be suspended or swirling in space.
Most of her pieces utilize vivid colors, juxtaposed with raw wood surfaces of diverse grains and shades. They express her personal, intuitive language of movement and rhythms influenced by music, particularly jazz.
Deborrah was educated at The University of Texas at Austin (BFA cum Laude) and Texas Tech (MA).
She has lived and made art in New Jersey since 1980.
