A Multimedia Project Surrounding Traditional Music in Western North Carolina

Within this project our crew will be creating short films and portraits of musicians, dancers, storytellers, and other members of the community whose lives and work offer a window into these traditions.
At the center of the project is a feature-length observational documentary exploring the traditional music community as it exists today. We are excited to share more about this!
THE ARCHIVE
Along the way of making these films, I began uncovering a remarkable photographic record of traditional music and life in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Tucked away in barns, closets, basements, and personal collections are thousands of photographs, negatives, and slides that have never been properly digitized or protected. These images share a visual history of Appalachian music that is at risk of being lost. Our hope is to preserve these photographs and make them accessible for generations to come.
